RILEY'S BIRTHDAY:
This weekend's episode is a particular sentimental
favorite of Jack(exec producer), Heather(director) and I(creator)
because the episode "Riley's Birthday" is the original pilot that we
submitted to Disney Channel in order to get the show greenlit in the
first place. There have been a few scene tweaks here and there since then but
I can still hear some of the same voice recordings of Grey Delisle and
Nancy Cartwright. In terms of design, this episode probably represents my artwork
the closest. Pop star Dustin Dreamlake is pretty much by my
design.
VOICE ACTORS:
We went through hundreds of recording of many talented actors to come up with the voices of the show. I had no idea who was considered a big name in the business but Jack, knew exactly who was the best and could deliver the lines the way we needed them to be done.
Todd and Riley were relatively easy.
Nancy Cartwright was our first choice for Todd after hearing her do a similar voice for a character in a pilot called "Super Cooper" If my memory serves me correctly I believe Nancy told us that Todd is halfway between Bart Simpson and Nelson Muntz from the Simpsons.
Grey Delisle was the other favorite for the show for the part of, Riley, which she nailed perfectly. Now I can't imagine Riley's voice any other way. As you all know Grey is best known for her voice acting work on Fairly Oddparents as the horrible babysitter Vicky.
Agent K was somewhat tricky as it came down to who could deliver a good intense paranoid British accent.... and Kath Soucie was our gal.
David McCallum was a huge find for the voice of car. Jack is a HUGE fan of the old spy show "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." and David was hilarious in the recording studio. I would have to say that his real personality fits very closely to CAR and I loved that.
Dick Daring has had the most
changes as far actors go.
At the time we did the pilot, Dick Daring was voiced by Arrested Developent actor, Will
Arnett, and early on in the development we were hoping to also aquire
his wife, SNL's Amy Poehler, to play the part of Agent K. Amy turned us
down but Will agreed and gave us an AMAZING performance. When the show
got picke dup Will had decided to move on to movies and we aquired
Malcom In the Middle's, Brian Cranston (the dad) who also, in my
opinion, delivered an amazing performance as well. In the end we went wit the amazing Daran Norris who has done years of cartoon voice work (I'm most familiar with his work on Fairly Oddparents as Timmy Turner's dad)
