With preparation for the EYEWITENESS REPORTS show in full effect I was digging through old sketchbooks and looking to find what I could frame to show in the gallery and I thought I'd share some of my thoughts about why the young girl in OH NO! looks the way she does..
My wife and I have two spunky young boys ages 4 and a half and 1 and a half. We don't plan on having any more children, but the question always came up as to what our children would have looked like if one of them was a girl.
For the most part I swapped out features between my wife and I and tried different combinations. She definitely has my wife's nose. The shape of her head is more roundish like mine. She has a combination of our hair (it's a dark brown like my kids) but she styles it like my wife does (not so much the pig tails but pulling it back when she's working with a few wisps peeking out in the front)
I gave her my wife's eyebrows (God only knows how awkward she would be with mine) and her sensibility of clothing comes from my wife's need to make her cute (thus shopping at places such as Gap, Urban Outfitters, and Children's Place) and my need to make sure she would be properly covered (the most likely over protective part of me having a daughter) She's left handed like me (she points with her left hand, she picks up the frog out of the jar with her left hand, she throws away the first place ribbon with her left 'dominant' hand, etc) Lastly, the glasses were thrown in there as a nod to my wife who often wears glasses while she works in her science lab.
So there you have it. The daughter my wife and I never had and what I imagined she would look like.
In any case, these sketches and others will be for sale at the EYEWITNESS REPORTS show tomorrow night. Hope to see you all there.
I had fun reading and looking at the sketch of the daughter you never had. You have a great imagination! I love your post!
