A bad stomach bug has been sweeping the nation lately. The Santat household has been dealing with it for over a week. I rarely leave my studio, but thankfully my kids suck up germs like a sponge and bring it home to Daddy. With that said, I have had a bunch of work on my plate and I try not to compromise with the quality regardless of due dates and health.
The final artwork begins for the second Bobby book, "Bobby the Brave (Sometimes)"
After completing this picture I noticed that I drew Mrs. Ellis-Chan (Bobby's Mom) particularly cute. In fact, I think I'm developing a crush on Bobby's mom....

I guess I would depict her as one part Doris Day and one part Lucy Liu....
DORIS DAY
LUCY LIU
....I think I've said too much....
Meanwhile, a whole slew of other projects are on my lap....
The graphic novel still goes strong...
This is a detail for a piece I did for a collaborative book project for Dial Books which involves lots of other really cool and talented picture book illustrators....
This was a rush job to illustrate the upcoming Bobby Vs. Girls paperback. I had about a week to do a couple of sketches and go to final. This was one of those cases where the publisher has a clear idea of what they want and you just have to execute it.
With the rain and cold weather sweeping Southern California I think I'm developing a slight case of cabin fever.
Thank God for Netflix.
Bobby's Mom, the opera singer, the goldfish... I love it all. Wishing you germ free creative time!!!
