So, did I really need a 30 inch monitor to plug into my laptop?

Yes.

Now hopefully my eyes won't hurt as much.

Wow I need to get a screen. What brand did you get since Apple displays are so expensive but still tasty?

Piotr- I got myself a Dell. A friend of mine told me that the company that manufactures the monitor is the same company that manufactures the Apple ones. This monitor sold for $600 less.
