Hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving folks. My family spent our holiday up in Sonoma, California (wine country for all you non wine enthusiasts) to hang with my wife's family. One treat that my wife and I had during the time off was going to the movies (the first movie in almost a year) and we saw "Casino Royale" which, to me, was the best Bond Movie since "Octopussy". I was never a big Pierce Brosnan fan and I loathed Timothy Dalton. I grew up only seeing the Roger Moore films and so when I saw the Sean Connery films later I understood what Bond was as a character. Daniel Craig carries the torch very well. Questionably Craig, in my opinion, is a much better actor than all of the Bonds (with exception to Oscar winner Connery) and he does what all the other Bonds since Connery fail to do and that was to capture his real spirit. In the novels Ian Fleming made Bond somewhat brutish, suave, and with a touch of coldness. What Moore, Lazenby, Brosnan, and Dalton all fail to do was capture the insensitivity and brutishness that Bond truly was and just made him purely suave which ended up removing much of the dimensionality of the character. Dare I say since "Octopussy" Bond just became a caricature of himself.
My wife and I came out of the movie enjoying every minute and we talked about it the whole drive home and it's been a long time since we enjoyed a movie that much.
AMEN!! It's awesome to see a Bond with a deeper and somewhat darker side. I'm with you, best Bond movie in YEARS! I hope to see several more with Daniel Craig.
